Kari Elizabeth Westerfield
Educational Background:
I received my Bachelor's of Science in Psychology and a Certificate in Neuroscience from Indiana University in 2010. As time went on, I grew more and more interested in the body-mind connection and how systems (beyond the nervous system) affected us in daily life. In 2011, I enrolled in an Intensive Training Program at Associates of Integrative Health in Bloomington, IN. The experience significantly affected the way I view, approach, and tend to my body and the bodies of others. I completed my 500-hour program and became a licensed practitioner in March of 2012. I have since administered over 2000 hours of massage therapy in both spa and remedial health settings. Since graduating, I found my passion working with women and new families and have completed formal training in fertility massage, prenatal/perinatal/postpartum massage, labor massage/doula support, lymphatic drainage, acupressure and essential oil use, as well other modalities that have been explored through self-study.
Practice Philosophy:
It is my mission to offer the Bloomington community and surrounding areas effective, affordable, and therapeutic massage and bodywork. I truly want people to receive massage, because I have seen the impact it can make. I do everything I can to provide consistent, efficient massage therapy for each and every client. I am constantly working on ways to make massage more accessible and reward loyal clients for maintaining their bodies with consistent bodywork. I am continually learning new techniques and striving to make each session even better than the last.
Regular massage can do amazing things for people. I truly believe in massage therapy's ability to make a significant impact on one's quality of life - helping an individual not only feel better, but function more efficiently as a bodily machine, with less discomfort, less tension, and a greater appreciation the present moment. I want people to experience this is much as possible, and learn about other ways they can help themselves to be healthier and feel happier.
Why I do what I do:
I LOVE MY JOB! I recognize how lucky I am to be able to say that. Every day, I am given the opportunity to make people feel good and take steps toward their own wellness, and that makes me feel amazing. Each client is unique and interesting. I am constantly being challenged and learning new things. Practicing massage leads me to be a healthier and happier person.
A little bit about me:
I have been in the Bloomington area for nearly 10 years now, and I love it here. Midwest winters are rough, but the incredible sense of community and culture in this city makes anything bearable. I love music: listening, playing, watching... I am slightly addicted to my computer. I go through a pack of Orbit gum every few days. I love my work and spend lots of time devoted to expanding my education and my business(es). I am fascinated with the the human body, the cycle of life, and I also work as labor support doula.
I look forward to working with you!
